Electric ride on toy cars

In recent years ride on toys and in particular kids toy electric cars that are battery powered rather than pedal powered have become increasingly popular. They are popular with kids as it allows the younger ones more freedom when they cannot walk or only walk a short distance before getting tired.

Whilst there is a range of gas powered ride on cars by far the electric toy cars for kids that run on 6v, 12v, 24v and 48v sealed batteries. The greater the voltage the more power the battery has. This is particularly important for kids toy cars because as your child gets older they will weigh more and therefore need more power to drive. The battery power as a rough guide starts at 6 volts for an 18 month plus baby going al the way up to 48 volts for an 8 year old child.

Electric quad bikes

The quad bike is a four wheeled motorbike with wider wheels that can be ridden sat upright. A typical 12v electric quad bike can reach a top speed of 5 mph but can run slower as controlled by the twist throttle on the handle bars. They will usually also have a slow reverse option as well, useful for getting out of trouble if they ride into a corner or a hedge! These all terrain vehicle look and operate just like the real thing. Suitable ages for these types of electric ride on quad tend to be around 2 years old as they have to be able to sit up unaided.

Electric ride on toy Jeeps

These are quite popular especially the Hummer style models which tend to be the best sellers. The advantage of the Jeep style vehicles is that they very sturdy and often have two seats so can accommodate two small children. The kids tend to love these as they are robust and easy to drive.

Electric cars

The widest range is available for the electric ride on cars. These ride on toys come in all shapes and sizes suitable for under 24 months of age on some models. You can get sports vehicles, cars based on the design of popular real cars, classics and kids cartoon and film based models.

Electric motorcycles

Other ride on vehicles

There are also a range of other vehicles that you can buy for your kids to ride on. My niece has a John Deere tractor (her father is a farmer) and they are great fun to ride, you even get towing accessories. Or maybe your kid loves big vehicles and would like to drive a Tonka dump truck with loudspeaker microphone.

What about a real electric ride on fire truck with working flashing lights or maybe a police patrol car with flashing lights. You can even get a ride on train, there are model that operate on tracks and ones the can ride on most surfaces. Maybe your little one is a bit of a sporting fanatic and would like a golf cart to ride on.

Battery charging

How long does it take to charge an electric ride on toy car?

There are different chargers available so the charger that came with your toy may charge at a different speed to a specialist rapid charger. A full charge tend to take about 12 hours. Most charges have an automatic shut off so they will stop charging the battery when it is full. This is useful if you want to charge the battery overnight.

A rapid charge can be done in about 2 hours. This charges the battery to about 80% capacity. It is not recommended that you use this charging method as the main way that you charge as this will quickly reduce the lifetime of the battery. You should do a full charge at least every other charge.

How long do the batteries last between charges?

This is going to depend on the type of battery you are using, the vehicle and how it is driven. Batteries can last from anywhere between 1 and 10 hours before they need charging again. Generally the more powerful the battery is the longer it will last and the more it can move. So a higher voltage battery would be more suitable for a larger vehicle and an older child.
